University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover – Professorship for “Diseases of Small Ruminants and New World Camelids”

in the Clinic for Pigs and Small Ruminants at the Livestock Clinical Center is to be filled assoon as possible. The professorship includes scientific leadership of the EU-certified insemination station and a health service for small ruminants.  Appointment to the professorship will be made either as a civil servant or an employee under the W2 or W3 salaryscale. Depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, a temporary appointment may also be considered.

Area of Responsibility:

Applicants are expected to represent teaching, research, and service in the area of health manage-ment of small ruminants andNew World camelids, both at the individual animal and herd level. The successful applicant is expected to participate in undergraduate and continuing education in the field of diseases of small ruminants and New World camelids in its entirety. Modernteaching concepts and ongoing development of teaching methods are expected. Teaching includes training with patients in theclinic and at the EU insemination station, within the scope of the health service for small ruminants, and through the involvement ofthe mobile clinic. It also covers coordination and delivery of courses in the PhD and master programs offered by the uni-versity.Clinical services and obligations regarding the EU insemination station and health service for small ruminants should becoordinated with other areas of the livestock clinic and include innovative concepts. Support of the Livestock Clinical Center is expected with regard to customer consultation.

Research should make a significant contribution to the field of herd health for small ruminants and New World camelids and shall be coordinated with academic colleagues at the university and carried out in interdisciplinary cooperation with national and international research institutions.

Requirements:

A clear profile in teaching and service, as well as a research profile evidenced by relevant publications and independently acquiredthird-party funding, with several years of international experience in the stated disciplines is required.

Application requirements are:

1. Veterinary training and corresponding degree, teaching experience
2. Doctorate and habilitation (or equivalent academic achievements)
3. Qualification or eligibility for recognition as a specialist veterinarian for small ruminants and New World camelids or as a specialistveterinarian for small ruminants
4. Recognition as a Diplomate of the “European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (ECSRHM)” or the equivalentAmerican College
5. Experience with acquisition of third-party funding

Proof of completed courses in university didactics and teaching evaluation results must be submitted with the application. Further requirements are regulated in § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Educa-tion Act (NHG).
