Faculty position “Small Ruminant Medicine”

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time Academic position in Small Ruminant and Camelid Medicine. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Teaching and Research stream depending on experience of the successful candidate. The anticipated start date is September 1st , 2025, or at an mutually agreed upon date.

Position Description and Associated Responsibilities

Small ruminant and camelid medicine plays an important role in veterinary practice, addressing the health and welfare needs of sheep, goats and other camelids, which are vital for global food security and sustainable agriculture. Alberta is the second-largest sheep and lamb producing province in Canada and the industry has an important role in livestock industry diversification.

The selected applicant is an emerging leader in education, scholarship and research in small ruminant and camelid medicine. As well as contributing to our educational programs in the DVM and postgraduate programs, they will develop an active externally funded collaborative clinical research program in areas including, but not limited to, infectious, zoonotic and/or parasitic disease, One Health, vaccinology and/or Diagnostics building on current strengths in the faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Medicine (CSM) and Science  .

There are cutting-edge core facilities in place, including a variety of biosafety level 2+ laboratories, small ruminant research housing, at out Spy Hill campus and state-of-the-art imaging, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics core facilities at our Foothills Campus.
