Graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 1999, Antonio Varcasia completed his education with a PhD in production and safety of food of animal origin and a Specialization School (MSC) in Animal health, breedings and zootechnic productions. Since 2009 he’s full time researcher at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of Sassari University, for the Area 07 (Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary) and for the scientific sector VET/06 "Parasitology and parasitic diseases of animals". Since 2012 he is a Diplomate of the European College of Small Ruminants Health Management (ECSHRM) of EVBS. He has worked in/with several institutions in Italy (University of Sassari, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sardegna, Regional Government of Sardinia, ASL, National Reference Centre for Echinococcosis-hydatidosis, Istituto Zootecnico Caseario per la Sardegna, AGRIS Sardegna) and also in Central America. Research activity of Dr. Varcasia is focused in diagnosis, epidemiology and molecular parasitology of Parasitic Zoonosis (Cystic Echinococcosis, Coenurosis, Toxoplasmosis), in parasitic diseases of small ruminants and pet animals (Bronco-pulmonary nematodes, Filariosis, Leishmaniosis) [Scopus ID]. He's also member of the WAAVP (World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology) of the Italian Society of Hydatidology and Italian Society of Parasitology (Soipa).
